POSITION: ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR
Center for Service and Community Engagement (CSCE)
PURPOSE: The CSCE Associate Director provides leadership in pursuing the overall mission and strategic direction of the Center with a specific focus on the Center's partnerships with local community agencies. A significant portion of the Associate Director's time focuses on the planning and implementation process for the Seattle University Youth Initiative. The Associate Director reports to the CSCE Director/Special Assistant to the Provost.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Seattle University Youth Initiative (SUYI)
? Provides ongoing support and leadership to move the Initiative from planning process to implementation of activities.
o Actively engages in the ongoing planning of the SUYI's strategic direction.
o Coordinates key community partnerships to implement the Initiative's activities.
o Represents Youth Initiative at campus and community meetings.
? Serves as main University liaison to Youth Initiative community partners.
o Clarifies each element of the Youth Initiative plan and how they fit together into an overall educational pipeline for local children and youth.
o Convenes campus and community partners to discuss specific elements of the Youth Initiative plan.
o Clarifies the roles of various partners and develops partnership agreements.
o Identifies and facilitates specific ways that SU students, faculty and staff can engage with community partnerships in pursuing the SUYI mission.
o Provides leadership of Youth Initiative Community Advisory Board.
? Works with faculty and others to gather appropriate data in order to monitor and evaluate Youth Initiative's indicators of success.
? Takes a leadership role with the planning and implementation of all SUYI community engagement activities.
Supervision
? Supervises Jumpstart Site Manager (1.0 FTE) who focuses on connecting college students to work one-on-one with preschool children at local early learning Centers.
? Supervises Program Coordinator/Graduate Assistant (.5 FTE) who focuses on the First Generation Project that mobilizes SU students to serve as tutors and mentors to local high school students who will be the first in their family to attend college.
? Supervises Program Coordinator for Student Leadership through Service (1.0 FTE) who focuses on providing leadership opportunities for student leaders related to community engagement, the Youth Initiative, and other service activities.
? Supervises student interns as needed.
? Supervises additional staff when needed.

Community Partnerships
? Develops new and strengthens existing partnerships between the University and local non-profit agencies and government offices.
? Provides leadership and guidance to other Center staff regarding partnerships with local agencies and government offices.
? Assists local agencies who are not identified as University community partners with their service needs.
? Represents the University at community events.
MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
? Provides leadership of Center initiatives and staff when the Director is absent.
? Assists with and participate in other Center initiatives and programs.
? Serves on University and/or community committees as appropriate.
? Works occasional nights and weekends when necessary.
? Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
? Master's degree in social work, public administration, non-profit leadership, or another related field.
? At least ten years of significant experience in community outreach, public administration, social work, non-profit leadership and/or college student services.
? Experience administering/coordinating programs including responsibility for developing and implementing new initiatives.
? Significant experience with and understanding of community-based organizations and/or government agencies.
? Significant experience with and understanding of university systems, practices, procedures, and working with students.
? Knowledge of and ability to animate the Jesuit Catholic mission, vision and values of Seattle University.
? Availability to work nights and weekends when necessary.
? High level of cultural competency including a sensitivity to issues of race, class and the ethical dilemmas that may arise from the development of strong reciprocal campus and community partnerships.
? Strong oral and written communication skills.
? Ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, students, community leaders and University administration.
? Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, skilled at developing and utilizing databases, and proficiency with web-based research.
